Fat reduction techniques come in all shapes and sizes. From fat freezing (cryolipolysis) to radiofrequency treatment, everyone has their go-to treatment to sculpt their bodies to their eye’s desire. This is especially true with technology becoming safer and more accessible. These techniques can often be done within an hour without little to no downtime.

At Dr D Aesthetics Medical Clinic, we offer a wide range of aesthetic treatment options to suit your body type, skin condition and desired outcomes. In this spirit, we are shining the spotlight on Fotona Tightsculpting – an alternative body sculpting and fat removal treatment option available to you.

What is body sculpting and why is it popular?

Even regular exercise and dieting regimes cannot guarantee removal of stubborn fat collection around the hips, thighs and buttocks. This is because parts of our bodies are adapted to collecting excessive fat cells that are difficult to burn off. While there is generally little to worry about from a health perspective, some might feel that this fatty layer of skin prevents us from feeling confident.

Conventionally, one might consider liposuction to remove stubborn fat tissues around our body. The liposuction procedure, evidently, is associated with high costs, invasive procedures and a patchy history of safety issues. There is also considerable downtime when patients choose liposuction. Until now, there have been few alternatives that offer a truly safe, non-invasive and convenient option for fat removal. This is why body sculpting without liposuction has been trending and getting popular among aesthetic circles.

Some common body areas that are suitable for body sculpting to remove excess body fat include:

  1. Belly fat
  2. Love handles
  3. Fat under the buttocks
  4. Outer and inner thighs
  5. Waist line
  6. Under arms

What is Fotona Tightsculpting?

Fotona Tightsculpting is a non-invasive, non-surgical body sculpting procedure that uses dual-wavelength laser pulses to eliminate excess fat tissues. Not only does it reduce the volume of fat deposits, it is also effective for tightening loose, baggy skin over the treated area. This treatment is performed in two steps:

Firstly, using Fotona’s proprietary PIANO® pulse mode, laser pulses are directed towards the treated area in a calibrated manner. This simultaneously helps to heat up the connective tissues and reduce fat cells in the area, in a process called hyperthermic adipocyte destruction. Since fat cells cannot survive under high temperatures, this step is particularly effective in destroying the layer of fat under your skin.

Secondly, Fotona’s SMOOTH® mode is used to tighten the superficial layers of skin at the treated area in a non-ablative manner. This concurrently tightens the collagen fibres in your skin while stimulating the natural production of collagen. As a result, Fotona Tightsculpting reduces signs of loose, baggy skin through extensive collagen remodelling.

Together, Fotona Tightsculpting provides the means to achieve true body fat reduction and cellulite reduction. Stretch marks and loose skin will be reduced, thus rejuvenating the overall look and feel of your complexion.

What can I expect during a Fotona Tightsculpting treatment session?

Depending on the treatment area and the set of desired outcomes, a Fotona Tightsculpting session could be 30 minutes or longer. As it is possible to perform Tightsculpting across multiple sessions, this is a great lunchtime procedure that you can schedule any time of the day. Typically, we would recommend 3 to 6 Fotona tightscultping sessions so that the desired aesthetic outcomes can be sustained.

Scheduling aside, some are concerned that Tightsculpting might be painful or have unintended side effects. Through rigorous clinical studies and implementing multiple safeguards, we are assured that Fotona Tightsculpting is clinically safe. Patients will experience the laser pulses as warm, comfortable sensations on the skin. Any discomfort is bearable. During the second step of Fotona Tightsculpting, where there is concurrent cooling of the superficial layer and bulk heat delivery over the subcutaneous fat layer, patients may experience slightly higher temperatures.

Importantly, the entire Fotona Tightsculpting procedure is performed by a certified medical doctor. This is unlike other treatment procedures which may instead be performed by a therapist.

How does Fotona Tightsculpting fare in comparison to other radiofrequency treatment and fatfreeze technologies?

Fotona Tightsculpting – compared to other alternative body sculpting techniques – utilises a unique dual-wavelength laser treatment. Importantly, as it directly heats up a large volume of subcutaneous tissue, a more significant extent of fat tissues can be targeted. At the same time, Fotona Tightsculpting results in little undesirable thermal effects, thus limiting unintended effects on neighbouring dermal tissue.

Though fat freezing might seem to be another popular body sculpting technique, it is not designed specifically for collagen remodelling. After a series of cryolipolysis sessions, patients might find loose skin in the treated area and poorly defined body contours. Although the aim of fat reduction is achieved, the overall results may not be aesthetically pleasing. Fotona Tightsculpting, on the other hand, avoids this as it is specifically designed for skin tightening, cellulite reduction and shaping well-defined body contours.

Similarly, radiofrequency and focused ultrasound procedures pose risks and side effects that one might not encounter with Fotona Tightsculpting. Radiofrequency devices, for instance, often result in unpredictable results because its effectiveness depends on the skin impedance, which naturally varies from person to person. RF treatment also has difficulty penetrating deep sagging tissues, unlike Fotona Tightsculpting which has been clinically proven to counter skin laxity even in deep dermis layers.

Would you recommend Fotona Tightsculpting for me?

No single person’s aesthetic journey is the same. Your dermatological condition, personal preferences, pain tolerance, and desired aesthetic outcome are all important factors to consider. But the clinical evidence for Fotona Tightsculpting is strong. Its effective and safe for a range of indications, including many desirable aesthetic outcomes.
