What is Botulinum Toxin Type A?
Botulinum Toxin A (more commonly known as Botox) is the protein complex derived from the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. Our daily facial expression when we smile, frown, laugh, squint creates wrinkles which deepen as we age. Botulinum toxin A relaxes the muscles under the skin by blocking nerve activity in the muscles. Hence, when botulinum toxin A is being injected, it inhibits the contraction of the muscle cells making them less stiff resulting in a more youthful appearance (reduced fine lines and wrinkles) or slimmer jawline (V-shape face).

For individuals whose face shape is characterised as squarish (big jaws), this may be due to bigger muscles at the jaw leading to the impression of rounder and bigger face. By injecting botulinum toxin A, which is a non-surgical, non-invasive procedure, it will relax and contract the muscle effectively shrinking the jawline and hence achieving a slimmer face shape or the current most popularly known V-Shaped face. Dr D Aesthetics carries 2 different ranges- Dysport and Botox.
